QZ Tray Setup Guide

This guide will help you install and configure QZ Tray for silent barcode printing with the LIS system.

Step 1: Download QZ Tray

QZ Tray is a background application that allows web applications (like our LIS system) to print directly to your printer without showing print dialogs.

Download the latest version for your operating system:

Download QZ Tray
Note: QZ Tray is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Make sure to download the correct version for your operating system.

Step 2: Install QZ Tray

Follow these steps to install QZ Tray:

  1. Run the installer you downloaded
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation
  3. When prompted, allow QZ Tray to start automatically with your computer
  4. When prompted, install the digital certificate (this is necessary for security)
Important: During installation, you may see security warnings about installing certificates. These certificates are necessary for the secure operation of QZ Tray and should be accepted.

Step 3: Set Your Default Printer

For the best experience, set your Zebra printer as the default printer in your operating system:

Windows:

  1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners
  2. Find your Zebra printer in the list
  3. Click on it and select "Set as default"

macOS:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners
  2. Select your Zebra printer
  3. Click on the "Default" button at the bottom of the printer list

Step 4: First Run and Browser Setup

When you first attempt to print a barcode using the LIS system:

  1. Your browser may display a security prompt about connecting to QZ Tray
  2. Click "Allow" or "Trust" to permit the connection
  3. This only needs to be done once per browser
  4. You may also need to click the QZ Tray icon in your system tray and grant permission
Note: QZ Tray runs as a background service. You can verify it's running by checking for its icon in your system tray (Windows) or menu bar (macOS).

Step 5: Testing QZ Tray

To verify that QZ Tray is working correctly:

  1. Make sure QZ Tray is running (check for the icon in your system tray)
  2. In the LIS system, navigate to Label > test_qztray_print.html
  3. Follow the test steps to verify your setup
